I thought it would be useful to show this extra large bushing (Fusee clock mainspring barrel):
Still Dirty after the ultrasonic cleaner
Cleaned with pegwood
Brought to a nice polish with a round burnisher suitable for this
size.
I’ll try to get the pics in the proper sequence.
This has to be done with all bushings. In watches one doesn’t burnish the jewel holes but I do use the tiny burnishing tools to clear any dried oil that remains after the cleaning cycle.
Depending on the pivot/arbor, the edge of the bushing may need attention. I use a circular set of chamfering hand tools just to knock down raised areas or a lip.
